Steven Slate Audio VSX Horizon One Closed-Back Modeling Headphones Platinum Edition

Steven Slate Audio has replaced its original closed-back VSX model with the Horizon One Platinum Edition, pairing upgraded hardware with the complete VSX Platinum modelling suite. The headphone uses a high-grade aluminium chassis and figured maple earcups, housing a 50mm dynamic driver engineered for lower distortion and a cleaner, more revealing response than the previous closed-back design. This closed-back option sits alongside the open-back Immersion One in the VSX range, targeting producers, mixers and mastering engineers who need isolation during tracking or mobile work.

The 50mm drivers cover 20Hz–20kHz with a 32Ω impedance (±15%) and 107dB sensitivity (±2dB), delivering the headroom and detail required for reference-grade monitoring through the VSX plugin. Circumaural leather earpads provide isolation for closed-back listening, while the detachable 190cm Y cable terminates in a 3.5mm plug with a ¼" adapter. VSX Platinum grants access to every modelled space in the library: Desert Studios, Spitfire Studios, Yellow Matter, Sonoma, Archon, NRG, Zuma, Howie Weinberg's mastering room, Mike Dean's studio and car, Club Indey, LA Club, two premium SUVs, an electric car, a boombox, a cellphone, an audiophile room, plus modelled studio and commercial headphones.

The Platinum licence includes all future VSX spaces at no additional cost, ensuring mix-check compatibility as the library expands. Each modelled room offers multiple speaker positions, global output EQ and calibration settings for tailored monitoring. The combination of hardware clarity and comprehensive room emulation gives engineers a portable reference tool for translation checks across control rooms, consumer playback systems and headphone standards without leaving the DAW.
