Solid State Logic SSL Bus Comp Classic Bus Compressor

For more than five decades, one stereo bus compressor has defined the sound of finished records across every genre of professional music production. The Solid State Logic Bus Comp Classic brings that legendary circuit back in a dedicated 1U format, remaining faithful to the focused workflow and tonal signature of the original SSL console compressor while extending its creative range. Variable VCA Drive lets producers and mastering engineers dial from SuperAnalogue™ transparency through to 10% THD for 4K console character, making this compressor equally at home on the master bus during DJ edits, stem groups in the studio, or full mix processing before final bounce.

High-performance THAT 2181 VCAs deliver the authentic SSL compression response that has shaped countless records. Precision stepped controls govern ratio, attack, release, and sidechain high-pass filter settings, ensuring accurate recall across sessions and eliminating the guesswork of continuously variable pots. The integrated sidechain HPF prevents low-frequency content from triggering the compression circuit unnecessarily, maintaining punch and weight in bass-heavy electronic music productions. SSL's Auto Release mode adapts the release time based on programme material, responding intelligently to transient-rich drum loops and synth stabs. A genuine stereo external sidechain input opens up advanced ducking and rhythmic pumping techniques, allowing kick drums or other elements to control the compression behaviour for dynamic dance music production.
