Product Information
Genelec's 8351B represents a significant step forward in three–way monitor design, combining the coaxial driver architecture that earned Sound On Sound's Highly Commended award with the room–adaptive capabilities that make it genuinely useful in treated and untreated spaces alike. The compact footprint–287 mm wide, 433 mm tall–belies serious acoustic engineering: a 130 mm coaxial midrange driver paired with a 25 mm metal dome tweeter delivers extended low–frequency reach (38 Hz–20 kHz ±1.5 dB) without the footprint penalty of traditional separate driver designs.
Built on SAM™ (Smart Active Monitoring) architecture, the 8351B includes Genelec's proprietary GLM™ networked calibration system, which automatically compensates for room modes, delay, and acoustic anomalies via dual CAT5 connectors and software control. The die–cast aluminium enclosure houses a reflex port and delivers 118 dB peak SPL per pair at 1 metre, with self–generated noise held to just 5 dB SPL–critical for extended monitoring sessions where fatigue degrades mix decisions. Harmonic distortion stays below 0.5 per cent above 100 Hz, ensuring transparent midrange and treble reproduction essential for critical listening.
For producers and DJs working in project studios or compact control rooms, the 8351B pair offers the acoustic consistency needed to translate mixes to club systems, headphone mixes, and streaming platforms. SAM calibration means spending less time fighting room resonances and more time on arrangement and sound design. The high SPL capability supports longer working distances and louder reference levels without saturation, while the coaxial driver's uncoloured imaging makes quick A–B decisions reliable. Extended phase linearity control via GLM software adds final precision when phase–critical hybrid setups matter.
