What is a Ribbon Microphone? Ribbon Microphones use a thin film of conductive metal (such as aluminium or nanofilm) placed between the poles of a magnet to generate voltages by electromagnetic induction.
They are usually bi-directional, picking up signals equally well from either side of the unit. First used in the early 1920’s, these devices were once delicate and expensive, but improved technology now makes them a durable solution with a distinctive aggressive sound; great for loud situations.
