Sequential: Innovators of Modern Programmable Synthesis
Sequential, founded by Dave Smith in 1977, manufactures innovative synthesisers and electronic musical equipment. Its products include the Prophet series, known for pioneering fully programmable analogue synthesis. Dave Smith & Ikutaro Kakehashi joined forces in 1982 to lead the development of a new industry standard data transfer protocol, MIDI, for which they earned a Technical Grammy Award in 2013. Following its closure in 1989, the company was reborn as Dave Smith Instruments in 2002 and reverted to Sequential in 2018. Sequential's legacy in electronic music production still shines bright in the modern era, with the Prophet series highly revered and sought after by musicians worldwide.
